  1. In the opening seconds, our subconscious survival instincts kick in and our mind and body decide whether to run, fight or interact, whether this person offers an opportunity or a threat, whether they’re a friend or foe.  Once trust is established, you can begin connecting on a person-to-person level.

  1. Some experts estimate that 15% of your financial success comes from your skills and knowledge, while 85% comes from your ability to connect with other people and create trust and respect.

  1. First impressions set the tone for success more often than class, credentials, education, etc.  If a prospect likes, you they’ll probably interpret your leaping around as enthusiasm.  If they don’t like you, they probably think you’re an idiot!  Any way you look at it, life is about behavior.  Imagination triggers emotion, emotion triggers attitude and attitude drives your behavior.

  1. Look your prospect in the eye and smile.  Note the color of your prospect’s eyes.  Practice your smile.  Put your face close to the mirror, look yourself in the eye and say the word “Great”.

  1. Your message goes where your voice goes, and your voice goes where your eyes send it.  Smiling makes your appear happier and confident.  Say “Great” to yourself three times before you walk in the door.

  1. Persuasion is about getting others to do what you want them to do.  To be effective, you must have three elements present. A trusting first impression, indisputable logic and a tug at their emotions.

  1. When you approach your prospect, you should be dressed properly.  Dress to show authority but approachability.
  • Adjust your attitude, make it joyful and make it playful and fun!
  • Say to yourself, “Great, great, great!”  Make yourself smile.
  • Note the color of your prospect’s eyes.
  • Have nothing threatening in your hand.
  • As you are walking up to your prospect say, “Excuse me…”

  1. You have a ten second commercial to tell them who you are, what you do and how it makes their life better.
